Watch Foley’s Evo Fly Off the Road During Pikes Peak Hill Climb and Tumble Down the Mountain
The Devil’s Playground is a section of the Pike Peak Hill Climb that’s become notorious for launching racers off the road. With the entire course now paved, the buzz was that it would be the fastest climb yet and although that proved to be true with numerous records falling including the overall time, the faster speeds also contributed to more hard core wrecks.
No one knows this better than rookie Jeremy Foley and co-pilot Yuri Kouznetsov at about Mile 16 when they took a corner too fast and too wide causing their Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 8 to slide on the gravel before losing all traction and somersault end-over-end down the mountain at high speed.
With all the debris flying from the car you wouldn’t believe it but miraculously both survived the scary wreck thanks to fast response and a well-built roll cage. Foley and Kouznetsov were air-lifted to a hospital and while there are conflicting reports regarding their injuries they seemed minor given the circumstances – both were released today.
Here is another video perspective, showing the crash from a different angle.
